White and Jodie are Women’s and Men’s All Around Champions at 96th Northern Navajo Fair Rodeo

Lee and Rogers are Runner-Up All Around Champions

SHIPROCK, NM – From 463 entries at the multi-sanctioned AIRCA hosted rodeo at the 96th Northern Navajo Fair, AIRCA’s 2007 All Around Champion Sammy Jo White and Sheridan Jodie were tops.

Taking off where she left the 2007 season, White began the first AIRCA 2008 season rodeo by placing second in the ladies’ breakaway roping event for $475 and third in the ladies’ barrel racing event with $498 for earnings of $973. Being given a choice by the rodeo committee White opted to take the $400 and the trophy buckle instead of the trophy saddle award, saying “I have too many saddles and not enough room for them.” White took home a total of $1,373. White gave the saddle to the women’s Runner-Up All Around Champion Roqui Lee, who won $285 by placing fourth in the ladies’ breakaway roping event and she entered the barrel racing event.

Sheridan Jodie sometimes enters the tie down roping or the team roping events along with his specialty, the steer wrestling event. He entered the team roping event at the Northern Fair Rodeo and this paid off for him. While Jodie did not place in the team roping event, he won the most money – all $602 in the steer wrestling event by placing first. As a result Jodie became the men's all around cowboy.

Jodie received a trophy saddle and a trophy buckle from the sponsor, gentlemen Jimmy Ayze who stayed to the very end in the cold evening to present the awards. The men’s Runner-Up All Around Champion Erich Rogers took second in the tie-down roping to win $477 plus the $400 bonus prize for a total of $877. Both Ayze and the 2007 Northern Navajo Fair Rodeo Chairman Frank Yabeny said, “we like the entries, the way the rodeo turned out, let’s do it again next year’ before they turned out the lights in the arena as well as closed the curtains on the 96th edition of the oldest Navajo Nation Fair.
